My apologies Simon but you are incorrect on that.

The link to download version 73 points to version 72!

here is the link target of the link that says "Download version 73"

http://cvs.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/ensembl-tools/scripts/variant_effect_predictor.tar.gz?view=tar&root=ensembl&pathrev=branch-ensembl-72

Please notice the branch version on the end of the link!
