Dear Gang,

In addition to the textual description that Bert just sent you can also have a look at a graphical diagram of the Compara database schema.
You will find it under ensembl-compara/docs/schema_diagrams/compara_schema.png (in your API installation)
or in the public CVS:
	http://cvs.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/ensembl-compara/docs/schema_diagrams/compara_schema.png?root=ensembl&view=markup
