[ensembl-dev] ensembl ftp-server time outs when connecting from USA West

Hello Ensembl, 

I'm trying to download some data (variation + core ) from the Ensembl FTP site but I get time outs when trying to download the compressed_genotype_var.txt.gz
file. 

Is anyone else experiencing problems ? I'm connecting  to ftp://ftp.ensembl.org/pub/current_mysql/

The download speed is generally pretty slow - any chance to hook up a mirror on the amazon cloud for the guys out here in the west of the US ? 
I also tried to fire up an AWS image in the Amazon cloud as I was hoping to 'ssh onto the machine and download the data from there  - no success either.
