[ensembl-dev] perl version

Hi,
The latest perl version is 5.26 while I see that the perl package in the
Ensembl VirtualBox image is 5.14 which was released on 2013.

Should I stick to this version (5.14) if I want to install on my own
system? I really don't want to fall in the dependency hell and see package
X needs version N of package Y but you have N-1!
