[ensembl-dev] API access to pre.ensembl.org genomes

Does anyone here know if there's any way (official or unofficial) to get API access to the genomes in pre.ensembl.org.  I'd like to do some queries against the GalGal4 chicken assembly which is still in pre, but seems to have the feature annotations I'd actually need, however it doesn't show up in the registry from the latest official API download.
