Hi Reece,

That is correct; you should be able to represent the schema in the RDBMS of your choice. Migrating the API is an unknown amount of work, but Ensembl has regression tests so you would find out fairly quickly how difficult. Updating the API with each Ensembl release is likely to be a pain _if_ the migration was difficult unless you have long-term resources to dedicate to this.
