[ensembl-dev] using coordinate versions

Hello,

I'd like to learn how to work with different coordinate versions. As a
proof of concept, I'd like to do a very simple thing: Print the length
of human chromosome 1 using build GRCh37, NCBI36, NCBI35 etc. to produce
an output like:

GRCh37 .. chr1 180915260
NCBI36 .. chr1 88827254
...

My understanding is that the reference versions are somehow hardwired in
various Ensembl versions and that it is not possible to do that. At the
same time I hope that I am wrong!
