[ensembl-announce] Ensembl Transition updates - July 2026

Hi, 

Thank you for using Ensembl resources. We would like to share an update ahead of the transition to the new Ensembl.

Active feature development:
The new Ensembl is still in active development, and it does not have all the features that our e116 and EG63 sites do. 

We have prepared a feature profile to help you decide which version best suits your needs:

Access the version you wish to use via our archives - https://beta.ensembl.org/help/articles/archives 

The URL for the new Ensembl:
In mid-August we will cycle the URLs so that ensembl.org brings you to the new Ensembl site.  

In preparation for this change we have:

Renamed apps on the new site - https://www.ensembl.info/2026/07/14/apps-renamed-on-the-new-ensembl-site/  

Changed the URL format for genomes - https://www.ensembl.info/2026/07/23/changes-to-urls-for-the-new-ensembl-site/ 

Notice for increased risk of downtime:

As we prepare our systems for the change, there will be increased risk of downtime or failed jobs from the 8th to the 24th of August 2026.
